BROWER IN THE BIKE – SAT

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper — Early Double Analysis — Saturday, July 17, 2021

Race 1

1              CONTESTED HANOVER – Except for the one miscue at Yonkers, she’s been okay so far this year. Maybe not one of the very top fillies yet, but you never know. I like this spot on the pole with Scotty Z aboard. He will get her a trip.

2              DONNA SOPRANO – She is some kind of handful out there! I was surprised at how well she raced, considering the antics beforehand. Dube did wonderful job too! She dueled a long way and never stopped fighting. Tackles #5 now.

3              MAY KARP – Another under-the-radar type for Lucas Wallin. Has yet to prove she’s a major stakes player. Does have that nice turn of speed, which usually puts her in position. Needs to find that finishing kick to upset one of these.

4              ALTAR – So far, she just hasn’t been able to stay onstride this season. That last qualifying rally was pretty good, but I still need to see a good one at night. Not sure. Trainer: This is a nice filly IF she minds her manners. She has the potential to go fast. Just needs to use it.

5              BELTASSIMA – Wow is she good right now! That was powerhouse late kick in her Reynolds division last week. Definitely proving that her sires stakes upset was no fluke. Drew the perfect post for her versatile style. One to beat.

6              IMHATRA AM S – Wasn’t exactly exploding in her earlier starts here. Did a little better over at Yonkers and then had tough trip in that final. The concern here might be post, and lack of pace? Will need to find her way into it late.

7              INEFFABLE – Had a much-needed confidence builder down at Philly. Sometimes that lightbulb goes on and they remember how to win. It’s time she turned up the jets a little on the way to the Hambo Oaks. If a serious contender.

8              FLAWLESS COUNTRY – So far, she just hasn’t come back as good yet this year. I’ll emphasize yet. It’s already been a bad news week for the barn with Southwind Tyrion, so they could use some good news. Let’s see that speed!

Race 2

1              DANCINGINTHEDARK M – Re-asserted himself as a prime Hambo contender with a superb effort in the slop. Handled that track nicely, and it wasn’t easy. Marcus’ job is to keep this guy sharp a few more weeks. This should be easy.

2              TANGLED LOVE – Got the job done a few weeks ago, against a much-lesser group. This will be a big test for him tonight. At least he drew good post to stick close to the action. I want to see more from him late stages.

3              DELAYED HANOVER – Was probably one of the many that had difficulty over the surface last week, after the driving rainstorm. Everybody gets a pass. But, we also need this speedy sort step up with more power. It’s in there somewhere.

4              BROOKVIEW BOLT – The only one of these not Hambo eligible. Invades from Hoosier off a few powerhouse wins. Is he really this good? I guess we’re going to find out. Will need effort of a lifetime to test out #1. I have to see it first.

5              TAKE ALL COMERS – Homebred is doing a nice job of earning his keep so far this year. Hasn’t missed a check. Doesn’t make too many mistakes. Packs a good turn of reliable speed. Very interesting spot, to see if he can challenge #1.

6              ZENITH STRIDE – Hit the board at better than 40-1 last week, so that’s not bad. But, he did get a little tired chasing #1 and was clearly no match. Another possible pace presence, IF A Mac sends him. Small field. Needs that one big move.
