The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              SOMBODYITREASURE – Wow, what a tough race this is, to start the Crown Day card. I’ll assume this Team Bongiorno horse will offer some betting value. It’s the rail. It’s the day. Speed coming. How far can he go? Maybe pretty far.

2              BETTER TAKE IT – Two Cullipher’s in here and Better got the better post. I still say medium longshot vs. these.

3              IM A GIGOLO N – Also looking like a longshot today, even though his recent form isn’t bad. Looks like tough spot.

4              CAPTAIN BARBOSSA – I really don’t know what to do here. His qualifier in Lex was awesome, and then he scratched out of a pretty easy spot. They tried the Crown anyway and he drew post 10. Will try to get the jump on #6.

5              ROCKIN THE ACES – He’s performed at a pretty high level all year, so full credit for that. Didn’t always have the best of racing luck. This is a very salty group for this level, so he will need very best once again, AND a very good trip.

6              LET IT RIDE N – On the comeback trail for sure. Maybe a tad disappointing down at Philly? He usually has a much bigger kick than that. Maybe he just didn’t like that track? He likes this place much better. The one to fear late.

7              SHOOBEE DOO A – Can’t disrespect the work Shoobee has done this season! Gave Ozzi a real good scare last time with a two-move speed effort. That’s what he’ll need today! More than one burst. The Captain will try to get him there.

8              DEALER’S TABLE – Gets first bad post test in a while and that might be the problem. This is no easy spot and I just don’t see him trying to blast in here. IF he gets away last, how’s that going to work out? Not well.

Race 2

1              QUALITY BUD – Been a reliable commodity here for a long time and this isn’t a bad spot on the drop back down. The pole gives Tetrick options. I’m not sure he’s as good as #4, but we will find out and Tim will put in the right spot.

2              MIGHTY MR SHARKEY N – The sick scratch worries me a little bit, but it was post eight. Wink, wink. Looking at his recent form, he probably needs this drop. The question is whether he likes the big track or not? I’m still not sure.

3              BIGONPERSONALITY N – Just missed last time here with a good start. But, that was at the bottom level. This looks significantly tougher, so he’s got a little something to prove. I do like the inner post to keep close. Needs a trip.

4              MINDTRIP – Finds his way back to Club Med, much to Jessica’s delight. And, they find a nice, cozy soft spot too! The Captain will be looking to control this, on or near the lead. Might be very tough to catch, IF #7 isn’t ready.

5              ALEPPO HANOVER – Hasn’t won all year. Won only once all of last year. If he beats you today, so be it. Turn page.

6              SHAMMA LAMMA – Also looking very much like a longshot, even in this short field. I don’t see much early speed and I don’t see a whole lot of rally late.

7              HAIL CHRISTIAN N – The huge question mark in here. Last raced on Sept 25. That’s more than a month ago! But, if you want to trust anyone to have a horse ready, it’s Mr. Pelling. First go for his barn here in NJ. Let’s see how it goes.
