The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

GOING GULFSTREAM – MAY 1

The best feature of synthetic surfaces for handicappers is that it minimizes the concern for weather. Of course, some animals prefer dry to wet, but synthetics are often fairer when water is added.

The Gulfstream featured seventh race today is an optional claimer for the ladies going 1 mile, 70 yards. Now Steve Klesaris could not have found a more perfect spot for Z First (5-2).

She’s improved for him and ran very well in her synth/racing debut sprinting and was claimed. She’s back to that level for the first time, attracts Alvarado–and her debut is worth viewing: GP, NOV 21, Race 1.

However, we’ll take the value that will be available on Knowwhentofoldem (9-2) claimed by Armando De la Cerda who immediately added blinkers.

Apparently. that was the right thing–if two recent sharp blowouts are any indication.

The Overanalyze filly raced very well in both starts, including her Tapeta and racing debut MAR 17 In which she rallied from far back late and was getting to the winner but a neck short at the wire.

There appears to be enough pace to suit her style and the blinkers might afford her better position. We’re taking her to win at 4-1 or greater and keying quinellas with Z First and well-placed ship-in, Dancin Dee (4-1), and adding Vandalia (7-2) to the trifecta mix.
