A full field of allowance horses here is surely a sign of spring and Saturday’s eighth race is a competitive beauty including a throwback to the old school: a stable coupling and this one has s big chance.
Order For Porky (3) won his last very gamely despite being pressed throughout at today’s trip from the rail position; the outside slip helps him here. Mate Plot the Dots (3-1) had the same kind of scenario, stretching to a mile off a sprint debut; he’s worked thrice this the effort.
But we’re going old school, too, and throwing out a recent race because it was too bad to believe and there’s a built in excuse; a surface switch to polytrack in Turfway’s Rushaway last weekend, and there’s something else.
We had an interest at 23-1 because we thought his effort when fourth in the Miracle Wood was better than it looked on paper and the winner, Lebda, came back to win Maryland’s first prep on the Road to the Preakness in its next start.
There was nothing to see in the Rushaway although Amen Corner (6-1) did show better speed away from the barrier then never picked up his feet. Proof positive is that trainer Jeremiah O’Dwyer enters back on six days rest; the trip took nothing out of him.
But check the Laurel Park Live Video of his Miracle Wood to see if you agree with the visually assessment: LAUREL RACE 6, FEB 15.
Taking Amen Corner to win at 5-1 or greater and key boxing exactas with the entry and Paradise Pride (8-1), whose trainer is 26% effective 2nd time off the claim.
