CASTELLANO BACK HOME

By HRI Staff — Javier Castellano, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, has completed his two-week quarantine in Florida and was given the green light to return home to New York Tuesday, according to David Grening of Daily Racing Form.

Castellano said he still feels well and never experienced any symptoms of COVID-19.Castellano was required to take a COVID-19 test before he was scheduled to ride in the March 28 Florida Derby.

His test came back positive on March 24 and Castellano began self-quarantining at his mother’s home in Florida. He was administered follow-up tests April 3 and April 7. Although those results had not yet come back, doctors gave him permission to fly back to his family.

The jockey said he will be spending time with his wife and three children. He will miss the Grade 1 Apple Blossom but is exploring what health protocols Oaklawn Park would require for him to ride on Arkansas Derby weekend, which will take place the first weekend in May.
