IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE

By Marc Lawrence — The term “hot seat” is one of the loosest terms used in college football when it comes to coaches. There is a difference between facing pressure, which comes with the expectations of winning at the big-time programs, and the hot seat which means you might be looking for a new job if you don’t win now. The Sporting News separates the two heading into the 2020 season. They’ve identified five coaches on the hot seat and five more facing mounting pressure to win this season. One of those facing pressure is Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh who is 47-18 and a perennial top-10 contender. The Wolverines, however, struggle in those top-10 showdowns and still carry an 0-5 record against the Buckeyes under Harbaugh. Michigan also is 1-4 in bowl games the past five years. The Wolverines haven’t won at Ohio State since 2000, and they visit The Horseshoe again. That is the biggest pressure point. For an overview of all 10 coaches making this list click here.

With the passing of former Miami Dolphins great RB Jim Kiick on Monday we’re reminded of what the NFL Network labeled as the “The Perfect Backfield”. Although Kiick was often overshadowed by fellow running backs Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris, he will forever be ingrained in Dolphins’ folklore. Without him, the 1972 perfect season and 17-0 record might never have happened. Kiick scored the winning TD in all three postseason victories. RIP, JK. You were one of a kind.
