The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

TAMPA BAY TODAY – MAY 3

Unlike Louisville, where the weather forecast looks dicey on Oaks day and perhaps Derby day, it looks like the racing gods are going to dry dry conditions for Wednesday and Friday.

Wednesday’s sixth in Oldsmar is a turf event for three-year-old fillies going a mile and a competitive heat it is, where half this field has a license.

Lukewarm early favorite Elise’s Rocket (3-1), despite the fact that she’s looking for her first grass score, has taken well to the surface and has run well enough to step up and handle this group.

Her best attribute is tactical speed and exits turf events in which the early fractions and today’s sharpe should suit her style with the speed but turf unproven One Tough Dame owns enough speed inside her to provide a target.

Maria Bowerstock is effective with her turf runners and her recent teaming up with Ronnie Allen has been very productive with two wins and two exacta finishes in their last eight tries.

Taking Elise’s Rocket to win at 3-1 or greater and boxing exacta with recent claim Influentialous (7-2)
