GOING GULFSTREAM – FEB 23

We begin the Gulfstream race week with Wednesday’s fifth race, first leg of the Late Pick 4. It’s a wide open affair, field of 10 sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf.

Two potential price shots are intriguing. Just Say When (6-1) is the long of two entered by Wesley Ward. One has the extreme outside and Paco.

The other is far ore interesting and in that Ward is insisting on turf with this one after winning on debut on dirt. His siblings are both winners with one on grass. First-Lasix today, a 30% Ward stat and the trainer is 6-for-14 at the meet.

Bueno Bueno (8-1) is interesting, too.. A winner of his only turf start at 2, Jack Sisterson trainee was used hard setting the pace on Tapeta last out before rightfully tiring. But that legs him up and the switch to Junior Alvarado suggests more patient handling here.. The price will be right.

Ultimately, the straight play is Classicstateofmind (7-2) who showed big improvement off the barn change of Jose D’Angelo, both his turf start here have been good, and he shows an ability to sit off the pace and strike–check out Gulfstream Park replay for JAN 19, Race 8.

Irad Ortiz gets the call and the colt goes second-Lasix, a 35% scenario for this outfit.

Taking Classicstateofmind to win at 5-2 or greater and keying quinellas with his rivals named above.
