SANTA ANITA OPENER DEC 28

Owing to problematic weather forecasts that calls for rain for four consecutive days, Santa Anita is breaking with tradition an erring on the side of a caution.

Consequently, opening day will be the scheduled first Saturday of the meet, Dec. 28, and not the day after Christmas. The Stronach Group made the announcement early to give all parties enough time to adjust their schedules; fans and horsemen alike.

  1. Well that didn’t take long. Now you don’t have to have bad weather, merely the forecast of it.

“Erring on the side of caution” is going to replace “The Great Race Place” as Santa Anita’s new motto.

Any day now, Santa Anita is going to announce that the 2030 meeting is canceled because AOC forecast that the planet will be destroyed by then

  2. It is a thing because “erring on the side of caution” in this case means erring out of fear that PETA will be given any opportunity to criticize. Bullies cannot be appeased, only encouraged.

There is no other track in America operating under this kind of intimidation.

Canceling a race card on the day because of inclement conditions is one thing. Doing it five days out is absurd. If Santa Anita continues this trend it will have a shorter meeting than Kentucky Downs.

  3. While Santa Anita has to keep on watching its posterior side, closing a few days around this time of the year covers lots of excuses, sores and makes some bettors, not as much as they should, reflect on their ways of reading ,checking and maybe especially ,ways of betting,on any track. Personally,i checked my notebooks, notes, tabs, etc. and welcome this pause and even getting rid of some outdated ‘horse’ books which are no longer viable besides bringing some old memories ,such as DRF Consensus [18 points ,or more ] in some races since that ‘ angle’ is no longer available but anyway, thanks Tom Ainslie,Quirin,Klein,Quinn,Scott et al and to all who penned books about this game even if too many still viable angles were left behind in print as if secrets of the trade of ‘picking winners’ like x example drop down $ payoffs between races: One of my absolute choice$,more so than the Pick 3-4 $ probable Fav$. Enough on that ! “Omerta` “. Enjoy your time, families as our brain and will to win recharges with some Nero D`avola,Chianti while giving those quadrupeds time to relax, too, after all, they deserve it more than us,couch potatoes.Happy Holidays,Buone Feste,,and… ” May the Winning tickets be with your Discipline “[ Sorry old guy in heaven,i changed it a bit ] See you after Valentines`Day as i cannot stand small fields in wet, frozen tracks unless i`ll be in Gulf Stream Park where my batting avg is usually less than that in New York , not ‘Kryptonite ‘, but somewhat close to it and gamblers should avoid where they strike out..Right ?

  4. My big takeaway from your comment, Jimmy G?

Christmas a great time for reflecting and counting blessings. Buon Natale to you and all of yours!
