NYRA PRESS RELEASE
Severe rainstorms force cancellation of racing at Saratoga
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) canceled live racing following the fourth race on Thursday’s card, after a series of severe summer thunderstorms, complete with heavy rain, at Saratoga Race Course.
In total, seven races were cancelled, including the featured $100,000 John Morrissey, a 6 1/2 furlong sprint for New York-breds 3-year-olds and up.
Due to adverse track conditions caused by extremely heavy rainfall, live racing was cancelled in the best interests of the safety of our equine athletes and horsemen.
The most recent cancellation due to rainfall at Saratoga occurred on August 4, 2018, when the final two races of the Whitney Day card were cancelled.
