By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — When it comes to scheduling, defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City came up on the short end of the stick this season.
The Chiefs are one of only five teams facing the biggest rest disadvantage in 2023. With it, Kansas City will have less rest advantage for six consecutive weeks, from Week Twelve thru Week Seventeen.
Andy Reid’s troops became the second team in Super Bowl history to rally back from a double-digit halftime deficit to beat Philadelphia for all the marbles last season (they also did it in the Super Bowl 54 win over San Francisco).
Kansas City defied all odds when QB Patrick Mahomes became the only player to throw for at least 5,000 yards in the regular season and win the Super Bowl. In fact, entering last season’s championship game, the NFL Passing Yards leader had never won a Super Bowl (0-for-56).
Remember, the 2004 New England Patriots were the last NFL team to successfully defend a Lombardi Trophy. KC’s last opportunity to do so was in SB 55 when they fell to injuries and Tom Brady and the Bucs.
Kansas City, you are on the clock… and time is running out.
