VIRGINIA WILL GET REVENGE

By Marc Lawrence — Last season 35-win Virginia was stunned in the semifinals of the ACC tourney by Florida State. The Cavs are ranked No. 1 ranked in the nation in Scoring Defense and Defensive Field Goal Percentage. The Seminoles are 1-5 ATS at home against foes with LTKO revenge and 0-5 ATS when playing with 5 or more days of rest. You know what to do.

Thought for the Day
It was a surprise to many, but not those in the Browns organization, when Cleveland hired Kevin Stefanski as its latest head coach this week. Orchestrating the hire was former LA Dodgers GM Paul DePodesta, the Browns chief strategy officer and analytics freak who let it be know that he wants a say in the Browns’ play calling (!). DePodesta was second charge in Oakland when the Athletics went “Moneyball” and won 20 games in a row during his tenure. Cleveland hasn’t had a winning season in any of its 4 years under DePodesta, but Stefanski was his man. Under Stefanski’s tutelage in Minnesota, Kirk Cousins became the first QB in NFL history to throw for at least 4,000 yards with at least 30 passing TDs, 10 or fewer INTs and complete at least 70.0% of his passes in a season. In 2017, Stefanski’s first year as QB coach, he guided Keenum to a 11-3 record and a berth in the NFC Championship game after Sam Bradford went down with a knee injury. Keenum came in with a 9-15 record in 24 career starts, a 58.4% completion mark, a 78.4 passer rating and a TD-INT ratio of 24-20. Under Stefanski, he improved to a 67.6% completion mark, a 98.3 passer rating and a TD-INT ratio of 22-7. He also recorded eight games with a 100-plus rating to tie for second-most in team history in a season and tied a team record with 10 games on the season without an INT. Those are the kind of numbers the Browns are looking for from Baker Mayfield, and a major reason Stefanski won the job. Now you know the rest of the story.
