HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Don’t know when this became actual policy, or if it was an oversight, but since the existence of a minus-show pool was referenced on TVG, we were curious about how any dollars were lost in search of nickels and dimes.
Was it an actual bridge jumper, or more like a puddle jumper, after 2-5 favorite Stormy Embrace finished fourth behind Wildwood Beauty’s in her stunning upset of the Sheer Drama field Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
But there were no straight pool totals in the official Equibase charts to digest, only total pools for exactas, trifectas, and the like. There were no figures indicating how much was bet to win, place, or show.
On the racing side, the Sheer Drama was to be a mere formality for the favorite, efforting to get into the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint the best way Kathleen O’Connell can get her there.
Pre-race, the question was if the Sheer Drama was to be the last prep for the 7-furlong specialist for the much larger dance, or whether she will have one more run before the first weekend in November.
After yesterday, a tighter, confidence booster may be in order for the mare that won the G2 Princess Rooney in her previous start.
On Saturday track loving Stormy Embrace was completely flat. Meanwhile, kudos to the connections of Wildwood Beauty for upsetting a solid group of older rivals.
