The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

For a seven-horse field in the Sunday feature to conclude the racing week in Hallandale, there’s an awful lot going on with three of the septet catching the eye.

An intriguing entrant is Great King (5-1) who has a lot of firsts in his U.S. debut; first start since 2021, first-time for Jorge Delgado–a 27% proposition–first-time Lasix, and first time on the GP All-Weather.

The classy Marwad (5-2) gets some class relief dropping out of a graded turf stakes and now returns to his winning Tapeta surface following a too-late rally going longer.

Miguel Vasquez went to Colonial Downs to ride him last time and is rewarded with a return call on the horse that will attract the most play here.

We’ll take some value on a horse with upside, recent maiden graduate Ruthless Intent (9-2). While his Thoro-Graph figure was slower than some of his rivals but it was his Tapeta debut and he proved much the best with a 5-6 wide rally coming off the turn.

See for yourself: Gulfstream Park, SEP 17, Race 8 and rate his performance accordingly. Then remember that his prior try on turf puts him in today’s game in figures. Edgar Perez will re-ride once again for Joe Orseno.

Taking 3-year-old Ruthless Intent to beat older at 7-2 or greater and quinellas with his rivals above.
