PLAYING ‘SMART’ FOOTBALL

By Marc Lawrence — Another football Fast Fact worth its weight in gold as reported by NFL guru Mike Mains, whose NFL Preview will appear once again in this year’s 2020 Playbook Football Preview Guide Magazine: “Teams coached by Bruce Arians play smart football. They’ve finished in the top-11 in penalty yards in six out of seven years, and in the top-10 in opponent penalty yards every single year, including two #1 finishes. Thus, it’s no surprise that his teams have finished above their season win total six times out of seven. Going back to Arians’ time as the offensive coordinator for Pittsburgh, his teams are 61-27-1 SU in one-score games.

Seminoles AD om the Warpath

To show how badly Florida State wanted to get out from under it’s ill-advised hire of former head coach Willie Taggart, the cash-strapped Seminoles owe a massive $18 million payout to Taggart. It didn’t stop them from showing Taggart the door and hiring Mike Norvell in his place. Good move.

Trending Today

I tweeted this out yesterday: Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins are considering offering the Cincinnati Bengals three first-round draft picks for the rights to Joe Burrow, who beat more Top 10 teams this season than Tua Tagovailoa beat in his career.
