Ed. note: OFF THE GRASS today — The racing god of trips owes one to Socialongdistance (3-1) in today’s turf route going as the seventh in Oldsmar.
As all know, the key to turf racing is saving ground before launching a sprint home but last time the tack was overdone–no fault of the rider, just tough luck.
Breaking from the, he saved ground throughout but when he was ready to roll at headstretch there was nowhere to go.
Surrounded, he finally got untracked late and was rolling but ran out of lawn. With today’s outside draw, he should have clear sailing, assuming a clean break and uncompromised by the wide draw. It will be up to regular rider Jose Alonso to work it all all.
We’re taking Socialongdistance to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with forward looking Sir Saffer (5-1) and very sharp Kobla Mas (6-1).

Like an Irishman looking for his home on a dead end street is all, and “assuming a clean break and uncompromised by the wide draw”, I’ll roll the dice once again in search of an additional trifacta score as we head into Churchill Downs. I am riding with Loughlin’s analysis oncetoday and it will be “Riders Up” with the Preacher’s gospel analysis in the 7th on the Tampa grass. With the banning of everything in print in Fl. of late, how long before the Governor targets Broadway, lol. John is safe for now as Gov D. at present is tied up with his battle against Mickey. In a battle of wits, I’ll side with Mickey. Rumor out Desantis may be interested in signing up Tucker C. on the underside of his ticket. Best we follow John while we still can, lol.
Back to today’s FRA’s, changing the page to view HRI’s take at Gulfstream Park. Safe journey to all.
Indeed, we too are marking time with small action until Friday, looking to pad the first weekend in May bankroll.
BTW there were to scratched at Tampa so that now Socialongdistance moves into slip 7, that helps the cause.
And, yes, a safe and speedy journey to all…
See your scratch John and raise you with the second at Aqueduct. Nasty and wet on your old home turf.
With off the grass update at Tampa as well, are you scratching out your wagers? When the going gets wet, you get to stay home, or is it, when “the mudder was a mudder, and the father was a mudder, well then you gotta stay in the rain and bet the mudders, lol? I am thinking of scratching the AWDs and protecting the bankroll for a better bet day
Muddy at Hallandale as well? Thanks.
It’s the cliche for me; dark day, don’t play…
