The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

My computer crashed. The geeks at Best Buy said it probably was due to corrupted RAM, or MALWARE, Either way, I cannot open the damn thing.

I have an 11:40 am Sunday at Best Buy, where I will pray to the tech gods. Note the small ‘g.’

I’m told it could be repaired by end of day or, if the RAM needs replacing, it could take days.

Between races Saturday at Gulfstream I did the work for Tampa and was about to start on Going Gulfstream when:

‘Error, your computer needs to restart,” followed by a fuzzy screen that looked a lot like my black and white TV when I was a kid. Static images everywhere, the screen never brightened.

Apparently “needing to start,” and actually starting, are mutually exclusive events.

Sunday seventh at Tampa is a maiden allowances on turf. From memory, Aruba trained by Abreu, was the fastest and consistent, but has had many chances. He’s worth trying to beat, 8-5 or 9-5, can’t remember.

Bassanio raced well over the course, goes for West Point and Delacour, and was 5-2. I think he’s the most probable. He looked good on video.

Then so did a pair from Graham Motion. I was taken with Benkei’s run here, he’s 9-2 and one I’d like to bet on. The other is Fun With Mun (12-1), he be a price but he drawn very wide. Motion is excellent with second-time starters.

Can’t think anymore. This is written on a borrowed computer. and as such I’m on borrowed time. It’s 12’26 Sunday morning and I’m going to crash now.

Going to box Bassanio with the two Motion’s in exactas, a three-way, and I’m going to bet Benkei to win. I’ll take anything in the 7-2 neighborhood straight.

I’ll be back when I get the computer back on Sunday, if I do. Wish me luck.

I’ll be watching the Pegasus draw on TV– they are drawing several other races on the undercard including the Pegasus Turf; watch the playoffs and tape the draw.

And to all a good night…

  1. Don`t feel bad because these ‘crashes’ could very well become common. Look what happened at Newsday`s county of Suffolk, NY where the whole government system was ” hacked ” in SEPTEMBER and they `re still trying to rectify million pieces of ‘input’ from all sides of government, from important legalities to the simple Bus schedules info. It must be worse than finding pieces to a Chinese labyrinthian puzzle! Anyhow, since i`ve been not playing horses as of lately, riding the NFL`s49ers winning wagon.

  2. Thanks for asking Doc. Will have computer back by latest Thursday and will do what I can on a limited time basis till then. Just your usual tech nightmare.

Will say, however, that the Geek Squad over at Best But in Sawgrass were great …

    1. Good news and glad they were helpful. Thursday gives you enough time to be ready for Pegasus day thankfully

  3. Thanks for the well wishes. I have Pegasus Day PPs. Races are challenging to say the least. With all the “spreading” going on, handle likely will be through the roof.

    Back to my day job…
