The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Marc Lawrence — Coming off a disastrous 2018 campaign, PAC-12 needed a makeover last season, the likes of which not even Joan Rivers’ plastic surgeon could have done much in changing the look of this plummeting Power-5 Conference. It had gotten so bad that the PAC-12 had gone 7-15 SU and 3-19 ATS in bowl games the previous three years… with only ONE WIN by more than 3 points. Things improved somewhat last season when the loop went 4-3 SUATS in its bowl games, but no one qualified for the CFB Playoff as the Pac-12 has made only two CFB Playoff appearances while having now missed out of the big event each of the last three years. Talk about a league in need of a vaccine. To read out entire Pac-12 Football Betting Preview click here.

The New York Post reports that 7-inning games just may save MLB’s plight during this pandemic. It says that the coronavirus has hardly brought out the best in MLB, what with the financial squabbling between players and owners, and owners taking way too long to refund their ticket-holding customers. The talk is that next year the league may turn all doubleheaders into seven-inning affairs. And then in 2022 make all regular-season games seven innings. In a nod to the past, extra inning non-doubleheader affairs can be played normally in the eighth and ninth innings before implementing the “runner on second base” incentive in the 10th. In the eighth inning of doubleheaders, the runners would sprint out to second base as a display of urgency to get things going. The Post concludes that “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” sounds even better in the fifth inning than it does in the seventh. With all this talk of change, baseball purists are surely rising from their graves.

From the PLAYBOOK ADVANTAGE for August – Free to all Coffee Club members: L.A. Rams QB Jared Goff is 0-4 ATS as a home dog in his NFL career. It goes hand in hand with Goff’s meager 3-11 SU and 5-9 ATS overall career mark and an underdog in this league. It’s also worth noting that NY Giants QB Daniel Jones is still looking to cash his first ticket an NFL home dog, as he is also 0-4 ATS in this role.
