The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

GOING GULFSTREAM – OCT 23

The larger purses on the Sunday program are for maidens with either spotty or no form, so the choices are optional allowances. Two others qualify, both going long on Tapeta Track.

Only two things one can think of when considering the form of Journeytothemoon (8-5) since Ron Spatz to over the training of the four-year-old filly this summer: Bang, zoom, because her form has been explosive since.

In four starts, there have been a pair of wins and a pair of seconds, but of greater import is that her figures have increased exponentially and deliberately. On other words, there should be more there there.

She beat allowance optional claimers last out, albeit at a lower grade, and the class rise hints strongly of trainer confidence, the apparent case here.

The Tourist filly comes of a career best in a visually impressive run, always looking the part of a winner. She stalked, turn-moved wide on the far turn, drew off, winning ridden out with energy in reserve.

Check the race to see if you read it the same way: Gulfstream Park, SEP 25, Race 5. The added ground should not mitigate her chances and the spacing is good, a tad over four weeks.

Taking Journeytothemoon to win, no price restrictions, and quinellas with Frankie’s Girl (6-1) and Dontmesswithless (4-1), extra ticket with the latter.
