The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

A deep, interesting card to bring down the curtain on the Sunshine Meet which means, of course, wide open and challenging races.

The forecast, low temperatures notwithstanding, turf racing will happen and the co-features are those always difficult five furlong sprints.

We left five horses open in the limit-field, plus four also-eligibles, and the decision is to shade consistent high early speed coupled with a significant drop on class.

The competition is tough and consistent but Dubai Key (5-1) has consistent graded credentials that his rivals lack. And while there are other speed types here, he owns SoCal speed with the pace figures to go with.

He exits a race that boasts three next-out winners and his prior, finishing fourth beaten 1-1/4 lengths in a good effort. Check out Del Mar, SEP 4, Race 9. He’s been working quickly for Amador Sanchez, who’s having a strong 2022, and Hector Berrios does most of the riding for this outfit.

We’ talking Dubai Key to win at 4-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with the sharp Saffie Joseph trainee Stat (5-1) and a classy Horse for Course, Carotari (3-1).
