Enough Is Enough: The fall of The Tree in Stanford this season has been mystifying. On the surface its losing record, including 0-4 ATS and ITS (In The Stats) over the last four games, is practically subject to investigation for a team that had averaged 10.4 wins a season the previous nine years. A closer look, though, shows their three losses came against teams that are currently 10-4 on the season, with two of the defeats on the road. The Cardinal returns home to host Washington taking more points today than then they ever have at Stanford Stadium under head coach David Shaw. With Shaw 29-5 SU and 27-7 ATS in games after failing to cover as a favorite, with the worst of the 5 losses being by 7 points. With the Huskies 0-11 ATS in games after tackling USC, it’s “timber” time. Take the points. 4th Quarter Covers Some football fans call them heart attacks in the making. Other call them bad beats. But the fact of the matter is glancing at the scoreboard won’t tell you the whole story in most games. Plenty of games went down to the wire relative to the spread in the fourth quarter last week in the fifth big weekend of the college football season to close September. Each week there are several teams that cover despite not necessarily deserving it, as well as other teams that played much better than the final score shows.
