By Top Turf Teddy – The Prince of Pace — The “Worst Stinkin’ Bet of the Day” for Sunday, January 12, 2020, will be in the 6th Race at Gulfstream Park, for 3-year old maiden fillies.
Teddy’s Tip of the Day: “You are in the presence of greatness.”
Have you heard the rumor that Big Ted does not like the trash riding that Irad Ortiz, Jr., employs? You heard correctly.
Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretsky, Irad Ortiz, Jr. Yes, he is undoubtedly of that ilk. Not one to throw percentages around; it bores me to death, and bores most people who read that crap. At Gulfstream Park, King Irad is currently winning at 25%, placing at almost 50%, and showing at almost 60%. The almost 50% place figure to me is the most astounding! His skills in handling thoroughbreds are truly incredible. Horses that do not figure based on their past performance record, get up for 2nd, or win, after he reserves them early, and awaits the proper positioning so as not to lose lengths along the journey. Granted, we must give some credit to his agent, who has got be one hell of a handicapper, but Irad drives the race car. My TTT E.Q.U.I.N.E figures are derived based on empirical evidence devoid of the human factor (owner/trainer/jockey), and reflects a horse’s current ability, based on what he has done in the past, not what his potential is for the future, especially important when handicapping younger animals. A guy like Irad blows my figures all to hell. Can’t tell you how often he beats me, and I don’t mind, except when he resorts to the trash riding tactics. The stewards must be in awe of him, presumably unwilling to take action against him. Don’t really blame Irad for his behavior, he is a competitor and he is taking every advantage they allow him. It is analogous to a young boy, whose father refuses to discipline him, and his behavior continues to cross the line of etiquette and fairness. Yes, the stewards around the country are to blame; spineless political appointees, afraid to take control, and kick ass and take names. Irad needs some fatherly discipline, and if forthcoming, his percentages will probably go up, not down, as Irad is obviously not familiar with the term “karma.” Time to grow up son, and be a man.
Which brings me to today’s “Worst Stinkin’ Bet of the Day,” with guess who is riding? Irad Ortiz, Jr. Beautiful weather today at the Stream, and 7-Jeweled Princess will get her first dry track to run on in her 3rd attempt. First time Pletcher runner by Curlin an unknown factor, and you might make a few bucks in the exacta using the 2 underneath. Hail Irad!
