An interesting late entrant, a three year old seeking Kentucky Derby qualifying points by running out of her division.
Swiss Skydiver, who has about four times more Kentucky Oaks qualifying points than her closest rival, will try to put herself in the Kentucky Derby starting gate if her connections decide to go that way.
But even if she doesn’t, she brings an added element of excitement to Saturday’s renewal of the storied Blue Grass Stakes.
With or without a deep bench of fillies, Swiss Skydiver’s connections deserve props for accepting this unusual challenge as she tries to make history in the process.
She will take on no less than a dozen rivals in the G2 1-1/8 miles, one of six consecutive graded stakes on a sensational July card at Keeneland on Saturday.
History notwithstanding, Swiss Skydiver has 600,000 reasons to tempt fate, but a victory would be worth 100 Derby qualifying points, more than enough to qualify for the September 5 classic.
