Interesting Gulfstream co-feature Thursday for juveniles going one mile and 70 yards on Tapeta track. It’s a seven horse field and four are of interest.
Men On The Hill (5-2) made a solid local debut over this surface. albeit finishing a bit one-paced. He rates to improve in start two here.
Father Glado (7-2) raced well back early after an alert start, rallied at the turn which carried him 4-wide into the lane, and he finished with interest while in close quarters, trapped behind horses through most of the stretch run. He worked sharply for this subsequently.
Defensible (12-1) trailed badly in his sprint debut at Laurel but finished with some interest while ridden out late. Now shows up in Hallandale for Graham Motion, a barn noted for first-synth starters. He owns a pedigree indicating that distance and surface will suit. The switch to Luis Saez augurs well.
But we’re going to shade Grand David (3-1) who showed very good early speed, was pressed on the lead throughout, separated a bit prematurely on the turn, then was nailed late in a promising performance. Connections, pedigree and recent figure should enable this position player to be a bit more patient, making his run in a more timely manner.
We’re taking Grand David to win at 5-2 or greater, a three-horse exacta box including Father Glado and Defensible, and will add Men On The Hill beneath in the super-exotics mix.
