The 145th Preakness stand at Pimlico Race Course begins for us with Thursday’s featured even, a 5-furlong turf sprint for allowance types of various stripes.
Railmaster (3-1) is not the sexiest selection. He doesn’t come out of a super key race like Sea Lover (10-1) does, a race producing three next-out winners from as many starters.
Neither is he a distance specialist in the manner of He’s One Wild Dude (7-2) who, in three starts at today’s trip, has compiled a 2-1-0 slate.
But he has something none of his rivals have, a win and show in two starts on this turf course.
His lifetime record is an ordinary 3-for-24–all wins have come at today’s trip, and he’s in very sharp form right now. From the rail, he will have no excuses.
Taking Railmaster to win at 5-2 or greater and key-boxing exactas with his rivals noted above.
