The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

There’s little question that Chad Brown will saddle a deserving favorite in today’s fifth race in Oldsmar. Not only does Ingrassia (8-5) appear properly placed with this group, the conditions are perfect given her (4) 2-0-1 slate at the trip.

However, we’re going with a lower seed hoping to keep the madness alive. After all, what’s wrong with Striking Chrome (8-1). We’re ending the suspense: There’s nothing wrong with Gerald Bennett’s charge.

Given two solid attempts on turf and after earning good figures consistently on the Thoro-Graph scale, apparently Bennett though something was missing and added blinkers for his most recent run.

While the experiment failed, Bennett, a perennial leader in these parts, has removed them since, a profitable 22% angle, and reliable partner Samy Camacho sticks despite that terrible try [see the video, Feb 23, Race 5] and note how atypical the effort was.

In a race lacking predictable early speed, we expect Camacho to leave for position and wait patiently for a chance to strike At a price, we will pay to test this theory.

Taking Striking Chrome to win at 6-1 or greater and boxing an exacta with Pythoness (7-2) who is dropping out of the G3 Endeavor for a more sensible spot.
