The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

If we can’t settle on a turf selection, we figure the next best thing is to take a dirt horse that happens to be coming off a turf trip. We looked no further than The Judge and Jury (2-1).

We selected the gelded 4-year-old to win a turf sprint when he made his Tampa debut seven days ago. From the rail he was pace pressured throughout but held fairly well for place, beaten a half length.

Trainer Jamie Ness bats 27% with quick turnarounds, 25% going turf to dirt and a gaudy 33% from a considerable sample when he gives hot-riding Mychel Sanchez a leg up.

But the clincher for us is the stretch-out to 7 furlongs and his outside post draw. We expect The Judge and Jury to execute this field before they reach the half mile pole.

We’re taking The Judge and Jury to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing exactas with Horse for Course Winter’s Ghost (5-1) and Nautilus (4-1), the “other” Ness entrant.
