The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Saturday’s feature race in Hallandale is an optional NX2 for horses worthy of a race with a name attached to it. A talented group–but with some question marks–is going a one-turn mile on the Gulfstream Park oval.

Off the top, four of the 10 entered have a license to win here but two with huge question marks. Classy Jesus’ Team (3-1) has not raced in 463 days, and that’s a little too fresh, considering the odds and the rail at the trip.

Argentine import Super Corinto (5-1) is a Group 1 winner. The problem is some translate here and some do not; the tote should supply clues. Obviously, if he’s a good horse, this is only a stepping stone.

However, given huge trainer stats in this scenario, you can back him on that factor alone. But it’s still a guess.

Corroborate (2-1) is a LAY-2 runner who should benefit from his return, and his outside draw helps. is best runs have come at this trip, on this track, but he likely is an underlay.

The now horse, and with upside, is the three year old Brethren colt, Clapton (6-1). He is a recent winner under today’s conditions here, is nicely posted outside, and owns an extremely sharp blowout coming into this.

Given all the question marks, after you check out his effort here on OCT 1 [see it in the video section of the HRI homepage], half the early line odds would be fair on a win bet and, based on potential odds, would also take a quinella with the Amador Sanchez import.
