No need for a warrant or a search party to find the deserving favorite in Friday’s featured eighth race, a maiden allowances for fillies, three year olds and up, sprinting six furlongs.
Moana’s Power (3-1) deserves her role as she been in her best form recently and owns Thoro-Graph performances figures that confirm that opinion. Add a recent best of the week blowout for the live Carlos Munoz shed and she’s sitting on a lifetime best performance.
But there is a returnee who peaks our interest and the price will be right. Flash Flood (8-1) makes her first start at 4 off a lengthy absence for owner-trainer Tim Padilla, who does good work with layups and the filly has been in steady training since late February for her return to Oldsmar.
Padilla had a license to drop her into claiming company but instead returns at the same MSW level vs. open company after racing competitively with state-breds at Canterbury Park last summer. The gray Flashback filly went well over this track to begin her career, finishing third at the distance on debut.
Why bring her back in this tougher spot if she weren’t doing well and has shown that she has some affinity for the surface? She, too, has worked well, sporting a strong five-eighths six days ago that was third best of 23 for the week. Is she up to this? At a price, we’ll pay to find out.
Taking Flash Flood to win at 6-1 or greater, and boxing an exacta with ‘Power’.
