A winner of three straight with an (11) 5-2-0 local slate and (2) 1-1-0 at the hybrid 6-1/2 furlongs, including a 5-length win last out, she was claimed into a barn that’s 31% with first-time-off-claim starters. Compelling facts.

But bettors should not sleep on the mare inside her. Sunset Empire (4-1). Second in two starts at the trip, she finally returns to the Tampa main track where she owns a (7) 3-2-1 mark. Anywhere else, she’s a very ordinary 1-for-11. But wait, there’s more…

Always a pace factor, she tuned up for this in a 5-furlong turf sprint. After breaking slowly, she raced last of 10 most of the way. After altering course late, she wound up beating half the field, losing by only 2-1/4 lengths. The clincher?
