There are times when handicappers can’t overthink things and take what is given. Today’s turf finale at Tampa is one of those times. But there are no gimmes in this game. Still, Economic Policy (5-2) will be a very tough out.
Start with the connections of Chad Brown and Antonio Gallardo going a mile and a sixteenth on turf. Nicely drawn in post 2, he was an excellent second behind a well meant favorite who got first run.
And every time he wanted to move he was stymied. Not a tough trip, just a bit unlucky. Check it on the Tampa Bay Today Video, JAN 29, RACE 8, in Oldsmar. But like we said…
Brown has another one in here, a first-time starter by Tapit from a mare that has produced five turf winners; Juror (7-2) with Angel Suarez. And there’s second favorite Astroturf (3-1) who has improved and picks up Daniel Centeno. He a Jonathan Thomas are over 50% hooking up the last few weeks.
But the early line favorite will appreciate the added sixteenth and has been training right along for his return. Taking Economic Policy to win, no price restrictions, key-boxing exactas with Juror and Astroturf, and adding price shot My Chitu (20-1) to the super-exotics mix.
