The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

CENTRE COURT

By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — When 20-year old Carlos Alvarez beat four-time defending champion Noval Djokovic to capture this year’s Wimbledon title on Sunday, the match took nearly 5 hours.

Djokovic had won 27 straight matches in majors, 34 straight matches at Wimbledon and 45 straight matches on Centre Court.

Only five men have won Wimbledon in Alcaraz’s lifetime: Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and now himself.

Alcaraz took home $3 million for winning the tournament, bringing his career earnings to $19.7 million. Djokovic pocketed $1.5 million, bringing his career earnings to $171.2 million.
