The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

FORTE MAYBE, NO TWO PHIL’S

It would do a racing heart good to see a still viable divisional leader return in time to enter the Triple Crown, even at this late date.

Forte worked to his trainer’s satisfaction this morning at Belmont and his next work in front of a veterinarian, if deemed satisfactory, would allow him to start in the mile and a half Belmont Stakes.

While his presence, and the return of Tapit Trice, would add much needed class to this year’s classics, Dthe good Derby runnerup Two Phil’s will not be coming to Long Island.

Trainer Larry Rivelli has decided he would rather point for the nine furlong Grade 1 Haskell by way of the Ohio Derby, or back to Churchill for the Matt Winn.

Who knows> Had the spacing been better, maybe he could have kept National Treasure honest in Baltimore, but Rivelli said immediately after the Derby he had no interest in running back in two weeks.
