The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Depending on whether you prefer to follow horses, or their trainers, will determine which way you will lean in today’s turf finale in Oldsmar.

Hot trainer fans will opt for Anthony Granitz, who has won with precisely half of his six recent starters, two of three ridden by Jose Ferrer, today’s pilot aboard Marv’s Magic (9-2).

But I prefer horses first and besides–that’s what exactas are for–and why we’re opting for meet winner Joe Phillips (6-1), who loves it here, as his (3) 2-1-0 indicates.

We like he’s been cover a month of recovery time and the fact the four-year-old’s form is holding well, breezing a half mile in 49 flat, a pretty good move at this oval, 3rd fastest of 23 at the trip.

While racing at virtually the same level, he faces a tougher set here. That, and a wide draw, should insure fair odds will be available. Jesus Castanon takes a return call.

We’re taking Joe Phillips to win at 6-1 or greater and an exacta box with Marv’s Magic.
