The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Today’s feature in Oldsmar for three year old colts is officially an “one other than” condition but could have been written for colts prepping for the Sam F Davis and/or the Tampa Bay Derby.

The race has drawn only six entrants, including two from Todd Pletcher and two for Saffie Joseph Jr. from South Florida. What to do?

Take a horse with Tampa experience, preferably one that has shown an affinity for the surface, and has worked well subsequent to his latest run. Enter Prairie Hawk (9-2).

The son of Curlin came off a bit of a freshening to win his Tampa debut with authority and has been training lights out since–four works includi9ng a bullet five furlongs in 59 4/5.

All four go first-time Lasix in here and with potential pace on here providing by either his stablemate or one of Todd’s, Samy Camacho, on a return call, is likely to employ stalking tactics once again at the same trip.

Taking Prairie Hawk to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with both Pletcher colts, Point Proven (3-2) and Classic Catch (9-5).
