The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

LAUREL PARK LIVE – FEB 8

A wide open allowance sprint is difficult enough on form but the fact that the condition of the track is in doubt makes the task of finding the winner ever more difficult. Sunshine is predicted but who knows how long the wet tracks or Thursday and Friday will linger.

The one element this field has in abundance is early speed but it’s impossible to extrapolate which horse will clear, the figures are so close. It will depend on the break on that’s why it’s called gambling. The answer is unknowable until the latches are sprung.

With no clearly defined late runner and no certainly which horse will prove the speed of the speed, we need to be creative. What is known is Whiskey and You’s (9-2) form has improved since late in his juvenile year and his first run at 3. And the horses from this low percentage barn have been going well of late.

We liked the way he finished up last time. He had good position but he was tracking a very solid pace, came with a determined rally, and continued to finish out well past the wire. See for yourself by checking the Laurel Live Video on the HRI homepage, RACE 5 from JAN 20, including the gallop-out.

We’ll take Whiskey and You to win at 4-1 or greater and will key-box coupled horses in the exacta, the speedy Bodeflex (5-2) and fast working Twixy Cat (5-1).
