There are faster horses on the Thoro-Graph scale in today’s Gulfstream opener than Tallahatchiebridge (4-1), but none as compelling a play. The trip in her debut going a mile on this course wasn’t as bad as it was unlucky.
It was clear from the start that Tyler Gaffalione wished to save ground and did, until reaching mid-backstretch where he took his filly off the fence to avoid being trapped. As a consequence, however, she found herself surrounded.
The rider managed to take her back to the fence where she made her run on the far turn, and remained there, rallying inside. By the time he was able to wheel her outside, any chance of victory was gone, but she did manage to finish well late for fourth, eventually passing the leaders on the gallop-out.

Tyler takes the re-ride for Saffie Joseph–they are a 25% team–and the trainer is 26% effective with second-time starters. The daughter of Will Take Charge has the genes for today’s added ground and thus far his offspring have shown some affinity for synthetic surfaces, should this race be re-scheduled.
Either way, we’re there. The race is open enough on paper so the price should be fair. Anywhere north of 3-1 would be nice. Also, we’ll couple her in quinellas with Flash Frost (10-1) and Native Thunder (7-2).
