The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

LAUREL PARK LIVE-AUG 8

With skies expected to clear in amply time so that Saturday’s feature race at Laurel Park can be run on the turf course, it presents handicappers with a unique challenge:

How often, after all, can a strong case be made for a marathoner turning back into a 5-1/2 furlong sprint. Not often, obviously, but if you have a modicum of class, it can happen. And Lemon Zip (7-2) has that kind of class.

The mare is making her second start off a layup, exiting Belmont’s River Memories. Prior to that she tried the G3 Very One at Gulfstream but before that she was beaten less than a length in the Zagora, an Aqueduct overnight stakes.

The 6year-old Niall Saville trainee drops into an NX3/optional claimer attracting Horacio Karamanos returning over a course she loves, given her (2) 1-1-0 slate and finds the winner’s circle often as her 5-for-15 record on turf attests.

Further, she rates to get a contested pace to close into. She’ll be out of it early but come flying late. Taking Lemon Zip to win at 3-1 or greater, boxing exacta with Giggling (9-2) from the live Cathal Lynch barn that’s 3 for its last 9 and 23% effective in LAY-2 scenarios.

  1. Keith, enjoyed the article! Although, I may need another degree to understand it all. Thinking that if I continue to read these articles, I will gain more insight to try to pick a winner…lol- but don’t knock my picking by color of horse or women intutition!…LOL- I have won a few races on that style!!..
FYI…interesting reading on the POTUS and WH…trust me, when you have worked there like I have, it brings a different perspective!

    1. Arana, I think you got the wrong license here, this is the other guy, but I’ll be sure that Keith sees your message.

Which do you like better, chestnuts or grays?

    2. Regarding…”FYI…interesting reading on the POTUS and WH…trust me, when you have worked there like I have, it brings a different perspective!”

I know this is Travers Day and I should be talking horseracing , but I can’t let the comment above simply pass unanswered.
Regrading the “Trust me” line, why should I? I sense the reverse given the close association with Trump and the WH?

Trust? The very same Potus, and Trump Campaign whose strategy now includes suing a tiny TV station in Northern Wisconsin over the station showing an add replaying Trump’s own early coments on Covid-19, responses like, i.e.; “This is there new hoax.”, “We have it totally under control.”, “It’s one person coming in from China.”, “One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” “When you have fifteen people and within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”, “We really think we’ve done a great job.” Trust me? Duh.

Well the very same Potus and WH… “trust me”, have now hired the very same attorney in the Northern Wisconsin TV suit, Lane E. Ruhland, Husch Blackwell, LLP., to now file registration papers on behalf of Kanye West. Lane Ruland is the Republican attorney working with Kanye West’s campaign in Wisconsin and is currently representing @realDonaldTrump’s re-election campaign in a federal a federal lawsuit against a Rhinelander,Wis., TV station. (h/t @Bencjacobs). No conflict of interest here? Disbarment time? Republicans supporting a Democrat’s campaign. I wonder why? Let’s book Kanye and really muck things up. All the class of an unflushed toilet, is all. But we are talking Trump. F’em when they’re sleeping and tie ’em up in court.

All of this while Putin and his boys and girls comrades are charging ahead unchecked pursuing The Donald’s interests in Social Media. How about instead Donald lasks Putin to look into the rewards offered for the execution of American Service Men & Women. Disgraceful is all. Pompeo warned Russia three weeks back but couldn’t even tell Potus. God forbid, he might become upset.

Well “Trust Me” I think not. I simply would like the country that I proudly served back to who we were. How about a people of compassion. Don’t make it great again. We tried that. “Let’s Just Take It Back Again” in November.

P.S. To the Editor, Thanks for the change in your analysis structure of late. I love your recommendation’ format of taking a position against the favorites, and really comfortable with using the favorite in the EX Box backups, and still having a realistic shot at cashing on a TRi or two. $50 bucks in and I’m Clint Eastwood for the covid safe afternoon. Wishing that you and Keith “Make My Day” John Boy. Your day is my day!

Riders Up. Wishing all a “Safe Journey” today. Six feet and healthy.
