The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

TAMPA BAY TODAY – FEB 26

Saturday’s maiden allowances for three-year-old fillies two-turning at one mile and 40 yards is a good one.

While the top spot appears to be a two-horse affair, several others are live and can be used as exotic fillers.

The two fillies are Quality (2-1) and Take a Stand (5-2). We believe the odds may, or should be, reversed at post time.

Arnaud Delacour’s Quality finished well at the fact in her sprint debut here on JAN 15, earning a good, competitive figure. The trainer is 26% effective with second-time starting 3YOs, 23% first-time Lasix and, by Quality Road, is begging for this added distance.

But in Vicky Oliver’s filly, we have one with more experience, has run faster on two occasions, gave an improved effort adding Lasix last out, was well supported and ran a winning race, only to be nailed at the end.

The Tampa Bay Video replay on the HRI homepage tells the story; she tried late coming off the layup. Check it to verify for yourself: TAMPA BAY DOWNS, JAN 14, Race 6–a race over the track, at this trip.

Wagering on Take a Stand straight at 2-1 or greater, boxing the exacta with Quality, and adding Midnight Stroll (3-1) and Aulenti (6-1) to the exotics mix.
