The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

The Saturday feature race in Hallandale is an optional allowances 3 & up going 6.5 furlongs. The bad news is that it’s very difficult to go past the two strong early line favorites.

It’s very difficult to fade Bobby Dibona trainees these days, batting an otherworldly 36% the past three months, more recently 2 of his last three and is 26% with Leonel Reyes in the boot.

Further, Grainger County (2-1) is on a forward line, even if his last was on a wet track.

But we must shade the oft-disappointing The Distractor (9-5) for several reasons. Drawn outside with plenty of tactical speed, he rates to get a perfect stalking trip and with apprentice Alisa Morrison in the boot, the gelded four-year-old gets a 7-pound pull.

Five weeks is perfect spacing for this one and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. is 30% when entering back his beaten favorites.

The clincher for us with the gameness he demonstrated on SEP 17 here, Race 2, in which he endured a stretch long battle, losing the photo on the bob of a head.

Check out the race in the video section on the HRI homepage to see if he rates the best chance here.

We’re taking The Distractor to win, no price restrictions, a quinella with Grainger County and, for a change, doubles with potential value shots Jan’s Girl (9-2), Bucktown (5-1), and Surrogate (6-1).
