The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

The Saturday feature is a good one, the Hollywood Beach featuring juveniles sprinting 5 furlongs on Tapeta track, a solid, well balanced field.

The three that caught our eye: Wide West (4-1) has been given time since his maiden win at has been freshened 50 days awaiting this. Clearly has been pointed and Edwin Gonzalez takes the call from Tom Proctor.

Face Abarrio (8-1) was most impressive in his maiden win, showing big speed early and on the turn and confidently handled through the lane as he changed leads on cue and drew off on his own, giving the impression there is more there, there. Offers excellent value on the early line.

At the end of the day, biases notwithstanding, we’re opting for the runner with the most experienced, toughened in two recent stakes, gets conditioning edge on the turnback, and has staling style and on outer draw.

Cheerful Charlie (3-1) ultimately gets the call because of the courage he showed in that two turn placing, doing all the dirty work, putting away a stubborn rival but unable to hold off a well meant one-run winner.

Taking Cheerful Charlie to win at 5-2 or greater and quinellas with his rivals named above.
