The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Marc Lawrence, — The top-seeded UConn Huskies are in the Final Four again as they attempt to repeat as national champions. It would be the first time since 2006-2007 when the Florida Gators climbed the ladder in back-to-back seasons.

The No. 4 seed Alabama Crimson Tide stand in their way, with the winner of their matchup going on to play for the title against the winner of the 11-seed NC State Wolfpack versus 1-seed Purdue Boilermakers.

Let’s first look at a few betting tips on this year’s Final Four card this Saturday, courtesy of the current Playbook Basketball Newsletter…

• At least one team seeded seventh or worse has reached the Final Four in 10 of the past 11 tourneys. By comparison, this happened only eight times in the first 32 years of seeding (1979-2010).

• It’s been 32 years since a No. 6 seed made the Final Four, by far the longest drought among seeds with a Final Four appearance.

• There were zero No. 1 seeds in last year’s Final Four, ending a streak of 10 straight tourneys with at least one.

• Big East teams are 7-1 ATS L13Y (UConn)

• Big 10 favorites are 5-1 ATS (Purdue)
