The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

‘GOING GULFSTREAM’ NOV 21

We decided that we’re going to take what’s offered so that we can end the Gulfstream fall meet on the upswing. And the better news is if we’re right, there is a good chance that good value will be available given the presence of a high profile Todd Pletcher newcomer, 6-5 early line favorite Complete Agenda.

It’s not so much about the drop in class–from state-bred stakes into a open maiden allowances–but it was the two-turn trip in which the rider was forced to maintain his position throughout, never an easy task, especially considering how the Tapeta surface was playing during that time.

That’s what makes Mr Rum Runner (9-2) such an attractive proposition here. Check out that synth effort and decide: Gulfstream Park, OCT 23, Race 3. This will supply the Uncaptured colt with the needed conditioning for today’s main-track flat mile.

‘Runner’ showed a fondness for the surface in his prior start, a sharp third beaten a neck at the always tricky 6-1/2 furlong trip. Nicely positioned in the gate, Romero Maragh should use the draw to best advantage.

We’re taking Mr. Rum Runner to win at 5-2 or greater, and an exacta box with the Pletcher newcomer.
