Interesting feature to start the Tampa racing week, the eighth event with sprinters going six furlongs at the NX1-Optional level and while the field is small, trips can make the difference by providing an upset.
Check out Race 8 at Tampa Bay Downs on DEC 27 and note the performances of ante post favorite Fru Fru Zan (7-2) and price shot Tapit’s Girl.
Obviously, ‘Fru Fru’ will catch the eye with her 4-wide sweep on the turn, continuing her move into the lane, battled throughout but had to settle for third. In a smaller field and with her tactical gas, she figures to have an easier time of things here.
Then so should Tapit’s Girl. As ‘Fru Fru’ was making her sweep, Tapit’s Girl was in the middle of the track at the turn, she dropped inside when the fillies straightened away, but with nothing going on there, Jesus Castanon tipped her out for clear sailing.
Appearing heavy-headed, she he did her best running after gaining forward momentum but it was way too late. Despite all that, she barely lost the show photo as she rolled home after the finish and galloped out nicely into the clubhouse turn.
Tapit’s Girl should benefit from her outside draw, a smaller field, and the presence of three possible pacesetters signed on. The table looks set and Castanon rides her back. Should she succeed, prepare to be rewarded.
Taking Tapit’s Girl to win at 6-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with Fru Fru Zan and the sharp Dennis Ward trainee, Bahamian Moon (5-2).
