GOING GULFSTREAM – MAY 13

It’s easy to understand why Mr. Peeks (7-5 is the favorite to break maiden in today’s seventh race.

On April 1, he attempted to turn a second place finish in a rapidly run sprint into a piece of the Grade 1 Florida Derby. After chasing the early pace, he stopped, finishing 10th beaten 27-1/2 lengths.

Today he turns back into sprint for his second start in the Saffie Joseph barn and returns to the maiden ranks. Six weeks fresh into this, he will take a lot of beating at a short price.

Then so should Maptitude (5-1) improve. He stalked a solid pace going the quickly 6-1/2 furlong trip and continued gamely, earning a competitive figure. He too has a right to improve in his second run on dirt.

The mini-turnback to six furlongs suits him and goes for Teresa Pompey whose maidens race better with experience. The outside post and presence of Emisael Jaramillo augurs well for a perfect stalking trip.

So we’re taking Maptitude to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with the favorite above and 4-year-old Omni King (10-1), a good third following a slow start in APR 15 debut.
