Wednesday’s seventh at Tampa Bay at one mile on the turf offers an opportunity to catch a horseman doing what he does best–the quick turnaround–get a switch to Daniel Centeno, turning back to a more suitable trip plus take some value, thought we doubt 8-1 will be available ante post.
But that’s the early quote on Unabridged who returns in five days for Derek Ryan, who’s made a career using this angle and, judging by her most recent effort, should be primed and ready for this.
It wasn’t that she had all kinds of trouble in her most recent effort at Tampa Bay Downs, JAN 29. RACE 3, almost to the contrary, except for the fact that she never really had a chance to get into gear. See for yourself on the TAMPA BAY TODAY video.
She saved ground at every step, tipped out for room at headstretch but there wasn’t much there. When she managed to slip into the narrow seam, she tried hard but to no avail. She had little if any chance to win that even-paced nine furlongs.
As stated, today she shortens up and should have the table set for her rally much better and the rider to take advantage of it.
We’ll take Unabridged to win at half the morning line or more, along with a three-horse exacta box with the extremely sharp Wonder Blondy (6-1) and Dynomite (9-2), third off the layoff for Kathleen O’Connell with Hector Diaz, having a brilliant meet while showing patience and style for the turf.
