The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

It’s not difficult to find the logical favorite in today’s 10th of 11 races to end the racing week in Hallandale. First Captain (8-5) who has never run a bad race, earned consistently fast figures and not many are as proficient as Shug McGaughey with a fresh runner.

But Trophy Chaser (6-1) is consistently more interesting. For one thing he’s 3-for-7 at today’s racetrack and 1-for-7 at all others. He won his only start at today’s trip and Juan Avila is 17% profitable in his career returning from 90-days + layups.

Better yet, he’s going to benefit from his last, a two turner on Tapeta track. He chased the pace early now turns back to a more suitable trip and Avila runners perform much better after prepping on synthetic surfaces. Check out his last: Gulfstream Park, OCT 22, Race 6 and decide if the turnback makes sense.

Shedding 11 pounds from his last, check to see if the fronts added for his last are removed, a popular tack for this barn. He looks live and at a price and we’ll pay to find out.

Taking Trophy Chaser to win at 6-1 or greater and quinellas with the Shug returnee and 7-furlong specialist and Gulfstream lover Dennis’ Moment (3-1), who has run well in the past coming off bad lines.
