By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — We lost a good one when legendary NFL linebacker Dick Butkus passed yesterday at the age of 80. ESPN referred to him as arguably the fiercest Monster of the Midway, In his nine seasons with the Bears from 1965-73, Butkus made eight Pro Bowls and eight All-Pro teams, including five first-team selections. A two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Butkus was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the league’s 75th and 100th-anniversary teams. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979, his first year of eligibility. They don’t make players like that anymore.
