THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

By Marc Lawrence— When the Phillies send Jake Arrieta to the rubber in San Francisco under the ESPN lights this evening they will do so knowing he is 0-5 in his last five away team-starts in August. With Philadelphia just 3-7 in its last 10 games in this ballpark, look for the lights to shine brightly on the Giants tonight.

Finally…

When Josh Johnson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he was a highly touted quarterback out of San Diego. When he signed yesterday with Detroit to compete for the backup job behind Matthew Stafford, the Lions became his 13th team in the NFL. He has played in 33 career NFL games – starting eight. Johnson picked up his first NFL win as a starter last season for Washington. I’m best guessing that whenever he’s released he’ll most likely tell Alexa to play “You’re Gonna Miss Me”… by the 13th Floor Elevators.

Today’s 2-Minute Handicap

MLB – St. Louis: Wacha 5-0 $ home vs. Pirates … Dodgers: 16-3 on Sundays this season … Houston: Verlander 7-1 $ day this season … Detroit: Norris 0-5 $ career home vs. Royals … Oakland: Bassitt 4-0 $ vs. AL Central this season … Texas: Minor 8-1 $ away in August.
