GOING GULFSTREAM – SEP 3

Florida-sired horses on display Saturday for juveniles in both the male and female divisions. We chose the Affirmed, as opposed to the Susan’s Girl based strictly on field size.

While we were tempted we’re not inclined to reinvent the wheel and will stick with the fastest horse, Awesome Strong (5-2) to extended his lifetime mark to 3-for-3.

Several of these are exiting the Dr. Fager Stakes won by the choice wire to wire showing bullet-type speed after coming from slightly off the speed to win on debut.

And he won the race staying on his left lead throughout until the very end when he finally switched over to his correct right fore and actually was drawing out at the very end after getting that second wind.

Check out the Dr. Fager and you make the call: AUG 6, Gulfstream Park, Race 10.

The bottom side of his pedigree will help at today’s added trip at 7 furlongs. Jorge Delgado, having a career season, helped by the fact his batting 23% with his repeaters. They get good, they stay good.

Miguel Vasquez takes the re-ride and it will be up to Vasquez not to get involved in any early duels, knowing that his colt doesn’t need the lead to win.

We’re taking Awesome Strong to win, no price restrictions, and will key him first and second with Fager runners-up Turbo (6-1), Cajun Hope 12-1) and Bouncer (9-2), entered right back off a classy-late maiden score for Mark Casse.
